Hair! (And harry potter tag)

I dyed my hair!!!!!!!!!
I dyed my hair!!!!!!!!! (this is my face, as I am realizing that a lot of you have not seen it to this point...) So yeah! My hair used to be blonde, but I dyed it red. As you probably know, I was going for a BRIGHT red, and it kinda came out ginger... but I absolutely love it!!!!!!!! I feel like a Weasley!

And to keep this blog post fandom related, I shall now do a Harry Potter tag seeing as I am now a Weasley and it just fees appropriate. :)

Favorite book/movie?
Hmm.... I'd have to say the Deathly Hallows. I can't really define as to why it's my favorite, it just is.

Least favorite book/movie?
Honestly, the half-blood prince. I don't really know why, but I didn't find it as fantastically interesting as some of the other books/ movies.

Parts that made you cry? (SPOILERS)
When Dobby died, when Hedwig died, when Dumbledore died, when Sirius died, when Fred died, when it was over, and SO MANY other parts that I won't get into because I WILL start crying. UGH FEELS!

if you could hook up with any HP character, who would it be?
Hmmmm.... Probably Ron if I'm completely honest. i mean, he's slightly sarcastic, he's protective, he's kind but also kind of cold, he loves food, he's kinda awkward, and goofy.... what's not to love about Ron?

Favorite character?
LUNA LOVEGOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is awesome! She's intelligent, she's kind, she's weird, and on top of all of that.... SHE'S IN MY HOGWARTS HOUSE!!!!! Ravenclaw represent!

What would your patronus be?
A sloth! This animal just describes me as a person, and just all around makes me super happy! I really just think those are the things that make a patronus, you know? Cuz when your casting the patronus charm, you have to channel your happiest memory and let it fill you up, so your patronus should be the animal that represents your happiness, in my opinion.

If you could chose the elder wand, the invisibility cloak, or the resurrection stone, which would you choose?
I would choose the invisibility cloak! Seriously, how cool would that be?!?!??!??!?!

What house would you be in?
Ravenclaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AKA the best house EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
Ah! Let me think about that, this one's hard....... Probably Emma Watson (Hermione). She just seems really cool!

Have you ever played any of the video games?
I mean, I played the Lego games, and I've been on Pottermore. Are there others out there that I don't know about?!!?! If so PLEASE let me know down in the comments.

If you were on the Quidditch team what position would you play?
either a seeker or a keeper.

Were you happy with the ending?
Yes! Not many books end on a happy note like that, and I was very happy that everyone lived happily ever after and that Hogwarts was finally safe after 7 years of just being under attack constantly.

How much does Harry Potter mean to you?
I would say that it's one of my core fandoms. As I am in MANY different fandoms, it's REALLY hard for me to pick a favorite, but Harry Potter is WAY up there n my list of fandoms. I love it so much. It is a fictional world that I would seriously love to live in. To answer the question, Harry Potter means a lot to me. It taught me a lot about friendship, and just abut life in general. A world without Harry Potter would be a very different, very sad place.

July Favorites!

*Sigh* I really kinda suck at the whole "Blogging every day" thing. Any way! July is coming to an end, so you know what time it is! Time for another monthly favorites! Yay!
(Not all of these are going to be fandom related)

First thing is DEATH NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a SUPER fantastic anime that I've been obsessed with lately! It is really well written, pretty well drawn (in my opinion) and is all around just a ingeniously well thought out anime!

Next thing is red lip stick! (I know, not at all fandom related... I did warn you) seriously though, I love it!! It's bold, and it makes a statement, and I just love it to death.

Another thing that I love is steampunk! Have you ever googled steampunk Disney characters? They are seriously cool! idk why I love it so much, but it's just plain awesome!
(I'm kind of wanting to draw steampunk versions of my favorite fictional characters... let me know in the comments if you guys are interested in seeing something like that! Characters I'm thinking of are like Leo Valdez, Tessa, Will, and Jem from the infernal devices, etc.)

another thing (Not that this is anything new for me) is SLOTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idk why I find them so friggin adorable, but they are! kjfa;lsdjfakjsdf;kaj;sdfkj;ljasdlfkjl;asjd

and my final thing: RED HAIR!!!!!!!!!! I mean like REALLY red hair! I'm dying my hair bright red, so I've been googleing red hair and I am absolutely in love!

Writing prompt day 3

Okay, I'm back! Today's writing prompt is: Back to school! (Ugh, don't remind me!!!!! I only have about a month and a half left to myself!!!) Anyway, here we go!

Kayla
My alarm clock blares, interrupting the soothing silence of my slumber. I groan, slapping the off button on the dreaded machine. The first day of school. It was always a day that I had dreaded. So much stress, and things to worry about. What should I wear? Who should I sit with at lunch? What if none of my friends are in any of my classes? What if I make a fool of myself? What if I trip in the lunch room and spill my lunch all over myself... again?
I stare at my closet for a good half hour before finally choosing something to wear, changing out of my faded T-Shirt and sweat pants. I run a brush through my tangled mess of hair frantically, Attempting to tame it down to an acceptable shape. Finally too frustrated to do anything with my hair, I pull it up into a messy bun, letting strands of my brown hair fall. I check the time on my phone.
"Crap." I whisper to myself, running out the door. I had to be at school in 5 minutes.
"Carter!" I yell my brother's name as I swing my backpack over my shoulder. There was no response at first.
"CARTER!" I yell again. I run to his room in a frustrated rush. He was laying in his bed with crappy earbuds in... seriously, I could hear his death metal rock from outside his door.  He was playing air drums in the air above his head. His floor was covered with scattered soda cans, and chip bags. I pull his left earbud out violently.
"Kayla, what the heck!?!?" He demands, standing to his feet.
"You're supposed to be my ride to school today, remember? Mom and dad are both at work this morning!" I remind him. He gives me a death stare, which I perceived as meaning "Seriously, you interrupted my emo music for this?" He let out an annoyed sigh.
"Can't you just walk?" He grunts, flopping back into bed.
"I have to be at school in 3 minutes, Carter!" I tell him. He rolls his eyes and sits back up.
"Well, I'm busy! My girlfriend's coming around any minute, and I don't want her to think that I'm ditching her for my baby sister's first day of school." He says as if I'm an embarrassment to him. I roll my eyes.
"Fine." I hiss. "I'll ask Chris's sister to give me a ride." I ring up Chris's number, pressing the phone to my ear.
"Tell Cassie I say hi!" I yell at Carter as I run down the stairs.
"Actually, it's Gen now! Cassie broke up with me yesterday." He yells back in response. I roll my eyes in disappointment.
Chris picked up after 4 rings.
"Hey." He responds.
"Hey! Have you left for school yet?" I ask.
"No, I was just about to. Why? Carter again?" He asks. I laugh in response to how well he knew me.
"Yeah. Could you give me a ride?" I request. He chuckles softly.
"Sure thing. Be there in a minute." He responds without hesitation. I grin.
"Thanks, Chris. What would I do without you?" I ask, relief in my voice.
"I ask myself that about you all the time. You're a mess, Kayla. Seriously." He jokes. "See ya soon." He adds before hanging up.

I MET JOHN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HADF;SJGTO;A HFHLHA.,DFG

Sorry I haven't been blogging in a while. It's been a really busy week! If you recall, a couple blog posts ago, I mentioned that I was going to meet John Green! I thought in today's blog, I'd tell you guys about what all happened at the #getlostgetfound Paper Towns event!
So, my dad and I got there around 8:00 am (Keep in mind that the actual event didn't start until 4:00 pm) and the line wasn't too long at that point. The other nerdfighters in line were REALLY nice. We kind of just sat in line for hours on end. Later, a snow cone truck came and gave us free snow cones! How nice of them, right? Then around lunch time, people came around and gave us free pizza bought for us by John Green! (I didn't eat any, but the thought was nice!) So, around noon, the line started moving and every one went towards the door, but they weren't letting us in! We were just huddling up in line like a bunch of sweaty penguins! And the line moved up every once and a while, even though we weren't going anywhere! It was just a bit ridiculous. It was about 97 degrees at this point. They let us inside around 1:30ish and then we stood inside until the show began like a bunch of sardines in a can. got so bored that I drew designs all up my left arm. Then the actual show started! Allison and Gabby of Just between us on YouTube (These guys:) You may know them from buzzfeed
were the ones who hosted the event. They were super cool! And can I just say... friendship goals!!!! They were the ones to introduce everyone and stuff. The first thing that happened was the band that plays the soundtrack of the movie preformed a couple songs. (sorry, I can't remember the name of the band) But they were so cool! I can defiantly see them as a band John Green would choose for the Paper Towns soundtrack! For the last song, Nat Wolf ran onto the stage and danced around! It was epic!
That's about when John Green came on the stage and had us say good morning to Hank for the Vlogbrothers video!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I've always wanted to do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) It was absolutely epic!
Also, we got to see about 20 minutes of the movie! IT WAS EPIC! (Can't tell you anything, spoilers! But it was epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see the rest of the movie... sitting down this time.)
So, yeah! When tuesday's vlogbrothers vid comes out, and Dallas is saying Good morning to Hank, think of me! :)

Summer Christmas!

Sorry if I don't blog for a while within the next week... lots of stuff is going on. My friend is off in DC, and I'm going to Oklahoma for 2 days, then coming back to meet John Green, and that's most of my week over, so yeah! Hopefully a fun blog will come around the end of this week.
Any way, today's subject isn't really fandom related, but I'll use a ton of fandom gifs and pics if that makes up for it at all!!!!

Okay, so my friend and I are planning a thing called "Summer Christmas" Because Christmas is too good to only celebrate once a year, right? So, basically, what we're doing is just Christmasy things in July! We'll have hot coco,

Christmas jumpers,

Presents,

Christmas carols with the lyrics changed for summer,

(Let me take a second to fangirl REALLY HARD because of that last gif.... Okay I'm good now.)
and all other sorts of Christmasy things! :)

So, yeah! This will most likely become a sort of strange annual tradition with my friend and I. So yeah! Kind of a short blog today, but I kind of have a lot on my mind today.

I went to hot topic TWICE today! Once for me, and another time because I completely forgot to get my cousin a birthday present! Here's what I got: (I also got my cousin a Gryffindor tank top and a deathly hallows necklace to match mine!

So yeah!!!!!!!!!! I'm just gonna end this with a quote that is on my new favorite shirt!

Writing Prompt day 2

Today's prompt is... Harmless prank gone wrong. Okay, gotta think about this one for a bit...
Okay! (I may have found this one on the internet because I am the worst at pranks, but still!)

"Come on, it'll be fun!" Jordan assures us, leaning over the library desk. Brenna nods in happy agreement.
"Yeah! Come on guys, it's the last day of school." Brenna says, trying to get Chris and I on board for a prank on the school nurses. Chris crosses his arms over his chest and leans back in his chair.
"I'm not doing it."  He says in protest.
"Oh, come on! Why not?" Jordan asks.
"Because I'm not comfortable with telling the nurse that I feel like dancing whenever someone says my name!" He answers in a sharp whisper. Brenna glares at him briefly and then looks over at me.
"What about you, K?" She asks hopefully.
"Nope. No way." I respond, shaking my head. "I don't want to be a part of this. You guys go crazy, but I'm gonna sit this one out."
"You don't even know the whole plan, guys! Just hear me out." Jordan adds eagerly. I let out a sigh of frustration. "Okay, so if we go through with this- which we will- Kayla, you'll go down first to get the whole thing on video. Just tell the nurse you feel light headed or something and need to sit down." Jordan urges. I nod microscopically, only slightly relived that if we did this, I would just be sitting on the sidelines. "That's when I come in, about a minute later. I'll be there to beat box or something while you're dancing." He explains. "Then Chris, you come down about a minute later and tell the nurse that 'lately you haven't been feeling yourself, that every time you hear your name, you feel the need to dance.' Then, Brenna will come in about 30 seconds after and say 'Hey, Chris, you feeling okay?' And that's when you break into dance mode." Jordan explains. "Make sense?" He adds. Chris nods slightly, rolling his eyes at the ridiculous prank idea.
"Okay, fine. Whatever. But if we get in trouble, it's on you." Chris says. Jordan grins a crooked smile, then hops up from his chair.
"Let's do it!" He says eagerly, clapping his hands once. I feel everyone's eyes locking on to me, urging me to walk out to the nurses office. I trip over myself as I walk out of the room, still in protest of the whole idea.
"I can't believe you guys actually talked me into this." I mutter. I shuffle into the nurses office quietly and sit down on a chair in the corner. Luckily, she was to busy with another kid to even notice that I had slipped in. I pull out my phone, and start recording the video. That's about when Jordan came in and sat in the opposite corner of me.
He nodded stealthily at the camera, which looked totally stupid. Almost exactly a minute later, Chris came running in the door. The nurse was still busy talking to another student, so this is basically when the whole thing started going down hill, and I was glad to be the one with the camera.
Chris stood in the middle of the nurses office in a confused daze, wondering what to do now. I couldn't help but laugh... which he heard, glaring at me in response. The three of us all exchanged a look as Brenna walked through the door before Chris could even get a word in to the nurse about his dancing disorder.
Now, this is probably where any normal person would just give up and walk away or something... so as you can probably tell, that's not at all what he did.
"Hey Chris..." Brenna started, but was interrupted by Chris eagerly tapping on the nurses shoulder. "Are you serious..." I say silently. The nurse whirled around to face Chris, who's face was now a bright shade of red.
"Oh, are you okay?" The nurse asked in a concerned tone.
Okay, little thing you should know about Chris... he MELTS under pressure. When he doesn't know what to do, words just kind of escape him, and he doesn't know what to do.
"I don't... feel good." He says awkwardly. Jordan bursts out laughing. "I... I don't feel like myself..." He says. At this point, his eyes were watering from the pressure of the prank going horribly wrong, so he looked like he was about to have a seizure or something. "It's just like, whenever someone says my name.. I, Uhh..."
"Why don't you go sit down?" The nurse suggested. Okay, now here's another great opportunity for one to give up. But Chris... well he was determined to go through with this prank somehow. So what does he do? He starts dancing.
"I just start dancing!" He concludes, dancing nervously. Brenna and I are both in total shock, but Jordan... we was laughing hysterically. Needless to say the nurse did not find this funny... luckily, it was the last day of school. Oh, and I got the whole thing on video.

So yeah! I hope you enjoyed that! Again, I found this prank done and failed just like that online. :)

Writing Prompt Day 1

So, this new thing is inspired by both the trivial thoughts blogger (trivial-thoughts-blogging.blogspot.com) , and Pinterest! So, what this is is 100 different writing prompts circling around one set of characters. My friend and I are fixing to write a book with these characters, so I figured that it would be a good way to see how they interact and stuff! 100 writing prompts to draw from
So basically what I've done here is I've written down 100 different writing prompts, and every day that I do this little writing prompt thingy I'll pick a new one! Today's writing prompt is....
Camping trip!!!!

"Why did I ever let you talk me into this?" I question irritably as I fail to secure the tent into the ground.
"Because it's fun and you want to spend time out in the wilderness with your best friend?" Kayla responds, grinning with the hope that I'll just go along with it. I glare at her for a brief moment before she breaks eye contact to secure the corner of the tent that she was working on.
"Apparently not." She mutters silently. I give up on the tent, leaving Kayla to do the work.
"I mean, don't get me wrong, I defiantly want to hang out with my best friend, it's just... well Chris and wilderness are just two things that don't mix!" I explain as she finishes setting up the tent.
"Come on, it'll be fun! And it's only for one night. I'm sure you'll survive that long." Kayla says, standing to her feet. I roll out the sleeping bags on the inside of the tent, and set my bag filled with numerous books on my side of the tent.
"And if I don't? Kayla, are you aware of how many people die n a year due to snake bites?" I ask, turning out of the tent to face her.
"Chris..." She starts, but I cut her off.
"Somewhere around 37,500 people!" Kayla pushes through me to get into the tent. I follow after her, zipping the door shut.
"Chris, I promise you won't get killed by snakes. You'll be fine. Now, I'm gonna go fishing before it gets to dark. You coming?" Kayla asks. I shake my head, pulling out a copy of looking for Alaska- a book that Kayla had recommended to me countless times- and flipped it open to begin reading. Kayla rolled her eyes, and let out a soft sigh.
"What?" I ask, holding the book in my hands. She shakes her head dully with a grin on her face.
"Only you could come on a camping trip and want to read the whole time." She laughs.

So, yeah! :) Hope you guys will enjoy this. I know I'll enjoy writing it!

Writer's Block

Okay, this one is kind of directed at myself, but I really feel like this could help a lot of writers out there.
There is one common struggle that all writers are too painfully aware of. This struggle is a little thing called writer's block. We all get it. But how do we get over it? Well I'm here to answer that question. *puts on nerdy glasses... that I already need for prescription anyway, but it makes me look smart as well, so yeah.*
So, to tackle writer's block, we first need to know what it is and what causes it. The urban dictionary defines writer's block as "The condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing." Writer's block is caused by many different things.

-The first thing that causes writers block is poor planning. Maybe you didn't plan out the whole book, and because of this, you are struggling to figure out how to continue the story. This happens all the time to me. But how I've learned to keep this from happening, is that I figure out the plot of the book, the conflicts, the resolutions, and things like that, and I plan events that will lead to bigger events which will lead to climaxes. I find that planning and writing down ideas, and brainstorming is a great way to fix this area of writers block. Also, make sure that you know the characters. Like... REALLY know the characters. Treat them like real people. Ask LOTS of questions to find out what kind of person they are. What's their backstory?  What makes them tick? What are they passionate about? Appearance? Family situation? Just get to know this character like you get to know your best friend.

-Another thing that causes writer's block is writing multiple books at once. I am guilty of doing this all the time, but if you want to get better at writing, DO NOT DO THIS! The stories may get jumbled in your head, and you loose focus on the book, and it's plot. Focus on one book at a time. If you have a really good idea for a book while your in the middle of writing another one, write down your idea! Or do what I prefer to do, and record a voice memo of you just talking and dumping out ideas. Later you can come back to this, and collect those thoughts into a new book. Take it one book at a time.

-(this one is huge) DON'T THINK ABOUT PLEASING OTHERS WITH YOUR WRITING WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING! This makes for poorly thought out plots, weak story lines, and sometimes not original work. It's okay to get ideas from your friends, but do not write your books to please anyone! Write for you, and no one else! Write your rough draft like no one but you is ever going to read it. If you love what you've written, it shouldn't mater what anyone else thinks. When I start to get concerned about what my friends will think when they read my books, I tend to get self conscious, and stop writing it all together. I start running out of ideas because there is no way to please everyone. There is always going to be someone who doesn't like what you write, but that shouldn't change anything if you are writing for you. To avoid thinking about what others will think, don't let anyone read your work until you are finished. Then maybe they can give you ideas of what to change... and don't feel obligated to change these things unless YOU think it would make the book better.

-Another thing that can cause writer's block is isolation. Yes, it is good to spend time alone when writing, but if you find yourself unable to come up with ideas, go to a Starbucks or something. Watch the way that people interact. Hang out with your friends. If you don't interact with other people that much, communication and description of relationships within your book will be weak, and slightly boring. You have to make conversation in books seem authentic, not made up, just to get the point across conversation. As people, we don't just say things like:
"How was your day?" I asked. "Good." He responded.
It's more like:
"So, how was your day?" I ask to break the ice. Jack had been silent since he got here, and it was deafening. He avoided eye contact, shuffling his feet. "Good." He responded in a dull voice. I could tell without doubt that he was lying.
See the difference? think about how people actually talk. We are not robots, we have emotion. Write with emotion.

Hope this helps any writers struggling with writer's block!

FEELS!

Okay, do you ever have one of those days that you have nothing planed and it starts out happy, but then you decide to marathon a show and it ruins your life? And then you turn to another fandom that you're not caught up in to hopefully make you feel better and that makes you sad beyond belief? And I the only one who gets this way?

Well, anyway, I was watching Glee, and practically EVERYTHING is going wrong at the moment, and I'm not at all happy!
I also finished what has been posted of night vale today (like 2 seconds ago) and I AM NOT OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I guess nothing bad actually happened.... come to think of it, it was just overwhelming happiness, but I thought something bad was going to happen, and I got really emotional! I cried for so long! And then everything was okay, and my OTP is still cannon! YAY! And the night vale fandom is sort of on hiatus at the moment.... so that's fun...

Bottom line; fandoms will ruin your life! I shall now define my current mood in danisnotonfire gifs.

So, yeah. Hopefully that was relatable, and not at all depressing to anyone. I promise I'm fine!.... Ish.... just kind of overwhelmed with feels at the moment.... yeah.....

Nerdy stuff I'm doing!

Sorry I haven't blogged in ages! It's been a really busy last couple of weeks. I've kind of had to be social for almost 3 weeks now, and it is driving me insane! Don't get me wrong, I love people, but too much contact with human beings for super long periods of time... it kinda wears me out.
Any way, I'm going to talk about some of the nerdy things I have done recently and will be doing soon!
So, last night, I went to Shakespeare in the park in Dallas and saw their production of Romeo and Juliet, which was absolutely AMAZING! I had read the play many times prior to this, and I am a total fangirl about Shakespeare's work! It is SO beautiful and well written. This is a picture I took of the stage about an hour or so before the production actually started:
Shakespeare in the park!

Another thing that happened was that my friend came in from New Mexico to visit! We had tons of fun while she was here, and we made these wonderful Percy Jackson T-shirts! My friend and I made these at a sleepover! So much fun!
We made one roman and one greek tee for each of us. :) This was a super fun project, and a super simple one too! Here's how to make them if you're interested:

Supplies:
Orange and purple T-shirts
Black and gold fabric paint
A printer
Card stalk (At least 2 sheets... maybe more if you think you might mess up)
An exacto knife
sponge brushes for painting

steps
-find pictures of the T-shirt logos online and print them out on a landscape piece of paper as big as you can get it or as big as you want it. I used word for this, but google docs should work just as fine.
-Print the logos out on card stalk, and cut them out with an exacto knife so that you get a stencil.
-Place and hold the stencil on the upper part of the T-shirt where you want the logo to be.
-Then just use the paint to color in the logo. For letters that don't really work with a stencil (Letters with holes in them or something) Just cut out the whole figure of the letter and outline the edges with paint... if that makes sense. Sorry, not really sure how to word that.)

So yeah!

We also made necklaces to go with them! Here's what mine looks like:

Percy Jackson necklace to go with the T-Shirts we made!
For this one, I bought a necklace chain, and some wooden beads. Then, I started to paint the beads... later realizing that it would be a way better idea to sharpie them.... so if you want to do this, colored sharpies is WAY easier than paint.

Next thing I made was this infernal devices inspired necklace:
"We are but dust and shadows." -will herondale
This is one of my favorite Will Herondale quotes! This one's pretty easy too. I bought the chain, and the little gears, and the magnifying lense (All in the steampunk section... I LOVE steampunk) And I just used decoupage glue to stick the piece of paper to the back of the glass. I used an ink pen so it wouldn't get all ruined by the glue, but I think a regular pen or a sharpie would work.

I also kinda got carried away and bought a supernatural poster for my room!
My new supernatural poster!!!
I love this poster!

Yeah, I went to Michael's, and kinda bought about $100 worth of stuff. That's where I got all my art supplies if anyone is wondering.

Okay, happy news to anyone who lives in Texas, and will be in town on July 16th! JOHN GREEN IS COMING TO DALLAS!!!! FOR FREE! I know, it seems too good to be true! I'm SUPER excited to be going! :)

Hope you all are having a wonderful summer! And are not at all anxious about it's ending like I am... It's all happening so quickly!
